Program Overview

What Is the CPT Program?

Phlebotomy technicians are essential members of the healthcare team, responsible for collecting blood specimens used in diagnosing and treating patients. This fast-track, 4-week program prepares you with the technical skills, safety knowledge, and clinical experience needed to work confidently in hospitals, clinics, labs, and more.

The profession of Phlebotomy is taught through didactics, student laboratory, and clinical experiences. The course focuses on skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. Blood collection procedures include vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles, and specimen collection on adults. Collection of specimens from children and infants is also discussed.

Emphasis is placed on infection prevention, patient identification, specimen labeling, quality assurance, specimen handling, processing, accessioning, professionalism, and ethics. Students will also learn the theory and principles of CLIA waived laboratory tests and perform those tests in the student laboratory.

Upon completion, you'll be fully prepared to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) national certification exam. Exam prep book is included in the program.
